Monday, 14th March - West Berkshire Alzheimer's Society/Big Issue
Firstly, West Berkshire Alzheimer's Society who held their meeting on empowerment to take notes so they can remember what they talked about when they next meet. This meeting is where people with dementia gather to talk about how they could influence policy and make things better. They discussed how technology can help their lives; eg stairlifts, adjustable beds, mobile phones, alarms etc. However, the next part of the meeting was heartbreaking; each person brought with them an object that they could talk about; two ladies brought old black and white pictures of their families, someone brought his guitar and played "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" to much amusement, someone brought his father's First World War medals while one lady brought her logbook from her time at sea in the 1950s.
Later, I went to Reading and bought a Big Issue from a lovely seller called Nick, then gave all my change to two more homeless guys on a cold, cold night so they could buy tea and sandwiches.
